Begich in Alaska Future of Broadband, Telecommunications on Agenda U.S. Sen. Mark Begich is welcoming Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Julius Genachowski to Alaska this week for a series of events focused on bringing high speed broadband and overall improved telecommunications to the state.

Sen. Begich and Chairman Genachowski will be in Dillingham on Thursday to mark the progress of the TERRA-SW broadband project which is extending terrestrial broadband service to the Bristol Bay and the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta regions. In January of 2010, Alaska's GCI and United Utilities, Inc. received an $88 million combination grant and loan from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) to provide 'middle mile' broadband service to 65 communities in Southwest Alaska.
