Tundra Drums: Rural Alaska broadband project wins best project award

Thanks to the internet and mobile technology, where we live no longer determines how we live. However, access to high-speed communication has been elusive for many living in rural Alaska. Bringing telemedicine, online education, and videoconferencing to Alaskans is a big responsibility, and recently the efforts of those who plan, design, build, and manage telecommunications infrastructure projects were recognized. Sept. 11, the GCI TERRA Northwest project was recognized by the Engineering News Record and named the 2014 ENR Best Projects Regional Award for Specialty Contracting.
